2009 Pan American Skeet Championship

Dallas Gun Club
Dallas Gun Club

The beautiful Dallas Gun Club in Lewisville, TX, just north of DFW airport, hosted the nation's top skeet competitors May 28-31, 2009 at the prestigious Pan American Championship. Weather was better than it has been for this shoot in many years and the club did their usual great job making shooters who had traveled from as far away as California and Massachusetts feel welcome.

LP after backtoback 500x500s with Dad and RagsLP after backtoback 500x500s with Dad and Rags

The Doubles event on Thursday afternoon turned out to be a harbinger of things to come, as Paul " L.P." (as in Little Paul) Giambrone, III from Covington, LA ran 100 straight and went on to out last the rest of the field in the shootoff for that Championship. Seems he is stuck in a rut - but a very good one - as he proceeded, for the second weekend in a row, to post another perfect score of 500x500. Back to back 500x500's, that's some terrific shooting by this young World Champion.......garnering the High-Overall Championship (400x400 uncontested), the High All-Around Championship (500x500 uncontested), as well as the Doubles, 20 gauge and the .410 Championship titles! And this weekend was even more special because his proud Dad, Paul Giambrone, Jr. was on hand to witness his success, as well as sponsor John Ramagli of KOLAR ARMS! GREAT SHOOTING, L.P......we're all proud of you!!

Abby Leeder & Bailey Glenwinkel at 2009 Pan Am

A large ladies field made up of many of the NSSA Ladies All-American team members posted some big scores as well, with the standouts being the Junior Ladies who are fast making their names known on the skeet scene. Abby Leeder from Boerne, TX posted her first-ever registered 100 straight by running the 20 ga event on Saturday morning, then followed that up with another 100 in the 28 ga. later in the afternoon. When you're hot, you're hot! Not to be outdone, Bailey Glenwinkel from San Antonio blasted a 99 in Doubles on Thursday afternoon, followed by 100 in the 12 ga on Friday morning to win both those Ladies titles, then cleaned up her weekend by posting another 99 in the .410 on Sunday to add that ladies Champion title!

Becky McCumber Ladies HOA CHAMP

Not easily intimidated by the kids, however, many-time Ladies World Champion Becky McCumber from IL. proved that consistency pays off by posting a spectacular 397x400 for the weekend to walk away with the ladies High-Overall title.

Congratulations and great shooting to all!
